In a few short hours, I depart for the Philippines to document a medical mission. Eighty doctors, surgeons, nurses and other medical professionals are all paying their own way to the island of Bohol to provide medical care and surgeries to people who cannot otherwise afford it. I’ve seen some of the doctors’ photographs of the types of situations that they’ll be operating on, and many of the cases are truly astonishing. When they asked me to go, I didn’t hesitate, and am of course paying my own way also. I feel grateful that I will be able to document the amazing work of these generous doctors and surgeons, and I feel that this will once again be a perspective-setting trip. We all have a lot to be grateful for, not the least of which is access to medical care. It’s sometimes hard to remember that most of the world’s population does not have the same access to medical care.

I’m still not sure what our connectivity will be while on the island of Bohol, but I hope to be able to respond to emails every day or every other day. If you write and don’t hear back from me, it’s only because I don’t have any connectivity. I’ll be in a semi-remote area, so if I am not able to get back to you, I will definitely respond when I get home. I hope you’re all enjoying the new year, and I apologize for not posting any new weddings. I have a huge backlog of weddings that I need to get posted on the blog, but client deadlines and trip preparation have conspired to keep me from posting them in a timely manner. I hope to post a ton of new weddings — and photos from my trip — when I get home on the 25th. Take care, and as always, thanks for visiting. 🙂
