I’ve received so many notes asking about my recent lack of blog posts that I thought I should post a quick update. My mother fell very ill in early March, and was in and out of Urgent Care and the ER several times. In 40 years, my mom had never once been to Urgent Care, so we were all very worried. We were initially told she probably had cancer in two places, meaning that treatment options would be limited. Then, they said that it was probably only in one place, meaning that treatment might be possible. Then, when we finally met with the surgeon, he said he thought it wasn’t cancer after all, but instead was an old trapped lung infection that couldn’t get out due to collapsed bronchi. After weeks of tears, this was the first hope we had.
I spent a few weeks helping my mom prepare and get things in order, and she finally had surgery last week. The good news is that the surgeon was right: It wasn’t cancer, which was a huge blessing. They did have to remove the middle lobe of her right lung, and she is still in the hospital, but she should be released soon, and I think she is getting better every day.
I also broke off a small piece of bone in my foot the weekend before last, but it’s just a minor inconvenience and won’t interfere with shooting at all. I just have to wear an ankle brace for the next eight weeks.
So that’s what’s been going on with me. 🙂 All client work is still getting done. I’m just behind on non-deadline things like the blog. My mother is the most important person in the world to me, and thinking I might lose her was more than I could bear. I’m sure many of you feel the same way about your moms. The good news is that she is now on the mend. I’m truly sorry to have worried anyone. I’ve been updating people who call, but I know a lot of people read the blog, so I probably should have posted about all of this sooner. We just didn’t know what was happening.
Thanks very much to those of you who sent prayers and kind thoughts. My mom and I really appreciate each and every kindness. I’ll be back to the blog soon. In the meantime, here are a few images. I had planned to do a handful from seven weddings and three engagement shoots, but I just now got the call that my mom is finally being released from the hospital this morning, so I’ve got to get on the road. My dad will be so happy to have her home. 🙂
