It's Just That Time of Year . . . .

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

The end of the year is always a flurry of portrait shoots, fall/winter weddings, album production and gift orders, meaning that our production work basically quadruples in October, November and the first half of December. Though my client deadlines always take priority over the blog, I have to admit that I was a little surprised when I looked at my to-do list and noticed that I'm currently nine weddings and six engagement shoots behind on my blogging. Many of these clients already have their wedding proofs in hand, even though they haven't yet made it to the blog. So to those of you who regularly visit, I apologize. :)

The good news is that I'll be more visible than ever next year, with six weddings being published in various wedding magazines in January of 2009. Congratulations to my great couples Andrea & Andres, Charmi & Sachin, Anu & Vishal, Dimple & Sagar, Madhavi & Vamsi, and Sabrina & Alex (co-shot with Rebecca Bouck), whose faces will all soon be smiling out from the pages of some beautiful magazines. I'll be sure to blog as each feature hits.

I'll be shooting Melina & Christian's wedding in Cabo San Lucas this weekend, and hope to blog something before I leave. If the time slips away before I have that chance, just know that when I return from my shoot, I'll do my best to once again be a blogging fool. Thanks for your patience and all your nice notes, and hope you're enjoying fall -- my favorite time of year. :)

Kavita & Vikas

Friday, October 17, 2008

Kavita and Vikas were married at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach. If you ever need brain surgery and an eye exam at the same time, this is your couple. Their medical talents secured job offers in sunny Texas, and they relocated to Houston just in time for the recent flurry of hurricanes. After Ike, poor Kavita was emailing me from a friend's house, since they themselves had no power. With coordination by Sheryal Rozelle at Unique Elegance, floral design by Marcia L. Johnson Floral Artistry, hair and makeup by Angie at Ziba Beauty, and DJ artistry by Hetel and the team at Kumba.

Jane & PJ

Thursday, October 09, 2008

Jane and PJ were married on a beautiful, sunny day at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. This is yet another of my New York-based couples, and since they booked me via phone, we actually didn't meet until the wedding day. I was delighted that they were both such great people, and couldn't contain my excitement when I found out that Jane worked at Sesame Street (my favorite childhood show). Jane's seven bridesmaids wore super-stylish one-shoulder dresses in a gorgeous color that looked so perfect against the blue of the ocean. And speaking of color . . . Jane and PJ's paebaek outfits were just dazzling. As part of the paebaek, family members throw dates and chestnuts for the bride to catch, and each caught date or chestnut represents a grandchild (or how many children the couple will eventually have). It turns out that Jane is a pretty good catch, so if the paebaek ceremony is to be believed, Jane and PJ are destined to have about 53 children. I don't seem to have any vendor information handy, so I'll be back to update this as soon as I can get the info.

The Andrena Photo of the Week

Monday, October 06, 2008

Why? Because this baby is just so cute, and with an expression like that, you just have to wonder what he's thinking. And he also looks like he's about to go jogging. Tracy and Greg are the proud parents of little Austin, and it was so fun to shoot him. I shot Tracy and Greg's wedding several years ago, and I'm thrilled that they still keep in touch.

Menaka & Chris

Menaka and Chris were married in an intimate wedding at The Beach Club in Santa Monica. Menaka chose beautiful fuschia and orange flowers to offset the beige of the sand, which gave the entire wedding a beautiful, festive look. This super-arty couple was so arty that they had a friend shoot the entire wedding with a Super 8 camera. Their DJ also spun vinyl the entire evening, and I have to say that even as a former musician and former college DJ, I had never heard most of the songs they played. This still baffles me. Menaka and Chris both got ready at the Oceana Hotel in Santa Monica, which is a cool and very private boutique hotel. With coordination by Jennifer Hronek at Joie de Vivre Weddings, florals by The Hidden Garden, dance performances by NDM Dance Productions, and a custom wedding cake by Zenzi Gadson.
