The Andrena Photo of the Week
Saturday, September 20, 2008
Since it can sometimes take me a while to blog weddings and portrait shoots, I'm launching a new blog section called "The Andrena Photo of the Week." This entry will be my favorite photo of the week, though it may have been taken anytime in the previous month. Generally, it will be an image from a shoot I haven't yet had time to blog -- just my favorite image, for whatever reason. Hope you enjoy the first entry . . . from Jane and PJ's wedding at
Trump National Golf Club. I love this shot!

Me!
Friday, September 19, 2008
I've been working on a new web site for a while now, and I hope it will be launching sometime in October. Last night, I realized that I didn't have a nice photo for the bio page, so my production manager Danielle took this one of me in my carport, about 30 minutes ago. I thought it was a cute pic, so I thought I'd post it. You'll be seeing it again when my new site goes live. Photo by Danielle Larsen.

Andrena Interview & Images Featured in New Book
Thursday, September 18, 2008
I'm very proud to have a 12-page interview in the just-out book "Professional Wedding Photography: Techniques & Images from Master Photographers" by Lou Jacobs, Jr. (Amherst Media). In addition to the interview, I have 16 images in the book. Nine other photographers are also profiled, including my good friends
Jennifer Dery (one of my favorite friends),
Chenin & Doug Boutwell (who throw the best ice cream parties ever),
John and Dalisa Cooper (always good for breakfast in Vegas),
Jen and Stephen Bebb (who I so wish did not live all the way in Canada),
Cliff Mautner (my hero), and
George Weir (who was not afraid to drive me all over Lancaster, Pennsylvania, just to find some homemade pie). The
Amazon editorial review is below:
Containing interviews with the top 10 wedding studio owners in the country, this indispensable reference offers a variety of opinions on everything from art and business philosophies to scheduling, handling retainers, writing contracts, and executing effective marketing plans. More than 15 images from each pro demonstrate classic and cutting-edge techniques -- as well as each photographer's signature wedding portrait style -- and are accompanied by details on recreating the scene. Additional tips on inspiring expressions and moods, modulating lighting, and adjusting composition while keeping clients relaxed during this emotionally-charged event are also included.

Dimple & Sagar
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Dimple and Sagar were married at the
Pacific Palms Resort back in July, but as always, I'm way behind on the blog. These guys are die-hard fans of the USC Trojans, so it was only fitting that this couple surprised their 600 guests with a grand entrance featuring a few members of the USC Trojan Marching Band. I've seen these guys play events before, but I've never seen the secret kept so well. No one -- and I mean no one -- except the couple, one bridesmaid and me knew that the band was there. So the guests just freaked out, and it was really fun to watch. The ever-stylish Sagar kept his good humor for the world's longest jaan, and he never complained once, even though he got stuck on that horse for way longer than he was expecting. (It's a long story.) Dimple is just so adorable (check out her dad wiping away her tears), and she's also a die-hard fan of gelato (even though she never seems to gain any weight, unlike somebody else I know). When I called to get her address so I could ship her proofs, she said, "Aren't I coming up there so we can go to gelato?" The answer was, of course, yes. And gelato fun was indeed had. With coordination and decor by the fabulously creative and talented Smita Mohindra at
Ethnic Essence, hair and makeup by
Oscar "The Man" Naranjo, and videography by the lovely April and the team at
Robles Video.

And the beautiful multi-image 42x42 framed print that I made from their engagement session, which was displayed from pipe and drape, and which had a crowd of onlookers throughout the cocktail party. The warm-tone B&W images and warm silver frame went with the winter wonderland decor just perfectly, and Dimple and Sagar are excited to hang it in their home.

Guess Who Played the Viper Room Last Night? My Sister!
Saturday, September 13, 2008
My beautiful sister Lisa Douglass played the world-famous Viper Room last night. She's lately been getting play on KROQ's Rodney on the ROQ show, and her new album (currently being mastered) will be out soon. Of course, the Viper Room had a no-flash policy, even for the official photographer. So I shot the entire show on 3200. Congratulations on rocking the house, Lisa, and for all your hard work playing the L.A. club scene during the past few years. I love you and am so proud of you.

The E: Smeeta & Subir
Monday, September 08, 2008
Smeeta is the sister of Ameeta, and both are cousins of Payal, who is also cousins with Navi, who is cousins with Payal and her sister Sabina. Somehow, they're all related. As you might imagine, I've had six degrees of separation throughout this Punjabi network of beauty, and have shot many weddings in this list o' peeps. I love that Smeeta and Subir reconnected at another wedding I shot (for Anjuli and Shivie). This is a super fun couple and they are really good together.

The E: Duly & Kevin
I first met Miss Duly when she served as maid of honor for another client of mine. She is so cute that she's like a little doll. I was thrilled when she and Kevin tapped me for their October wedding, and also that this cute couple finally got engaged.
